The Need for Home First Aid Kits
Accidents can happen anywhere, even in the home. Every home, and especially those with small children, should have a home first aid kit for accidents.
No one can predict who will be injured in the home. It may be an older child that must call for help. Inside every home first aid kit, then, include a detailed emergency contact list. Clearly write the phone numbers of community emergency services like 911, the police, the fire department, the local Poison Control Center, and the familys doctor and pediatrician. Also consider including a list of phone numbers of relatives or friends who can help in a serious emergency. It is also helpful to include a list of each family members medications and medical conditions like food or insect allergies. Also list the contents of the home first aid kit so that it is always kept stocked and the medicines up-to-date. Discard expired medication. Keep these lists in a plastic report cover.
Choose a portable, durable container for the kit. Since the kit will be inside, it does not need to be waterproof. A tote bag or plastic tackle box or art box make excellent containers. Store the kit so that it is easily available to adults and older children, but out of reach of young children.
Home first aid kits can be personalized for each home, but all kits should contain the following supplies: bandages of various sizes, triangular bandages, gauze, adhesive first aid tape, scissors and tweezers, antiseptic ointment and wipes, hydrogen peroxide, cough medicine, antihistamine, decongestant, instant-activating cold packs, and safety pins.
The kit may also contain activated charcoal or syrup of ipecac if recommended by a medical professional.
To further protect the family, consider taking courses in first aid and learning CPR and the Heimlich maneuver.

Dog Clothes make Great Gifts
When it comes to the art of giving, a gift of clothes is fraught with peril. We all have stories to tell, and if you don't, you will. Just give it time.
Mine started early. My grandmother, having survived the Depression, knew how to stretch a dollar. Clothes for her grandkids were always purchased 3 or 4 sizes too big so we could "grow into them". And she passed this charming trait on to my mother. So, we endured our baggy clothes, with the sleeves and pant legs rolled up, until we were finally big enough to wear them with dignity. By which time they were ready for donation.
Then there's my husband. Heaven forbid I should try to give the man a Polo shirt with an uneven hemline. Most Polos are made longer in the back to help them stay "tucked", but hubby goes un-tucked -- always. He rejects any polo that breaks the rule, no matter how subtly. For an otherwise easy-going guy, his behavior is almost perverse.
If you must give clothes this season, there's one giftee on your list who's sure to look great in any outfit you buy him. He'll wear your gift with pride and appreciation, head held high and tail wagging.
That's right, your dog. Or your best friend's dog. It's so easy you'll wonder why you didn't think of it before.
Dogs love any kind of attention you lavish on them. So, Spike will wear his outfit - whether it's cute or ridiculous - as soon as he sees how happy it makes his owner. Spot will eat up all that extra attention he gets from strangers. And Fifi might even want to Vogue for the camera.
Clothes shopping for dogs is a lot like clothes shopping for babies. Unless you're going for practicality, cuteness is what counts. And that's easy to accomplish, given that any dog wearing clothes looks pretty darned cute.
Choices in dog clothes range from winter sweaters to football jerseys and summer tees. You can get a set of flannel PJ's for bedtime or a terry robe for after bath. There's even an entire line of Harley clothes for dogs, complete with leather cap and studded collar. Dog costumes made for parties and holidays are just too cute for words.
If you really want your gift to be a hit with admirers, accessorize. Try a designer dog collar and maybe a cool pair of sunglasses--they make them just for dogs. And I recently heard that leg warmers are making a come back.
Got a mischievous sense of humor? Making the baby look silly might be a no-no, but it's good clean fun when it comes to dressing up a dog. There are some really creative doggie costume out there that are good for a chuckle or two.
There's really only a couple of rules you'll need to keep in mind when shopping for dog clothes:One is that if the dog in question is an avid chewer, you should avoid buying him anything tempting. Shiny buttons, fringe, and feathers are examples that come to mind. An object that can easily be chewed off and swallowed is a choking hazard and can get stuck in the dog's digestive tract.
The other rule is that any dog, no matter how tolerant, will be more comfortable wearing clothes that fit. Proper fit typically requires measuring from the dog's collar to the base of her tail for length. Most garment's girth can be adjusted with velcro tabs, but could still be an issue with a barrel-chested breed such as a bulldog. Measurements are typically in inches.
Remember that a dog will never "diet down" into an outfit that's too small , or -- unless you're shopping for a puppy or a pregnant female -- "grow into" an item that's too big. (Sorry, Grandma.)
Oh, and one more thing--if you're handy with a sewing machine, you can make your own dog clothes creations. Just don't forget to include an opening for the dog to relieve himself. Don't laugh, it happens a lot!
Now, if you're shopping for your own dog, you're all set. But if you're buying clothes for someone else's dog, I've got a few more tips for you.
Surveys conducted on the subject of gift preferences of men and women have shown that men prefer gifts that are more playful or practical. So, if the dog's owner is male this might translate into a doggie Harley jacket, a funny costume, or a reflective hunting vest (more on practical clothing in another article!).
Women, on the other hand, prefer gifts that are beautiful, memorable, and personal. It shouldn't be hard to find an item of clothing for a woman's dog that's either beautiful or memorable or both, and it will of course be personal!
Exception: if the woman is someone you don't know well. The more distant the relationship between giver and receiver, the riskier it is to give a personal gift. So, be they man or woman, if you don't know the dog owner very well, you probably shouldn't be buying dog clothes for their pet.
I hope you'll have fun picking out something nice for the canine on your shopping list. If you get a chance, send me a photo!

Online Sportsbook Betting Advice on the Dallas Mavericks: Early 2005 Season Analysis
Of the biggest NBA clichs to come out the last couple years is that Dallas can get to the NBA Finals if only theyd play a little defense. But to trade for defensive players theyd have to get rid of their offensive ones, and that has happened to a point. Daniels, Howard and Dampier play decent defense, but is it good enough to get Dallas anywhere other than semi-finals exit?
One thing that hasnt changed is their offense. This is still a score-first heavy team, and is at the top-10 in scoring, assists and field goal%. Marquis Daniels and Josh Howard arent on the court to score, but they still contribute in areas that Finley and Keith Van Horn dont. At 97.5 PPG, they havent reached the century mark yet but you can expect it soon. Injuries to Stackhouse and Terry havent hurt them as badly as we thought. Devin Harris and Darrell Armstrong have both done an excellent job replacing him, and Armstrong is one of the best PG defenders in the NBA.
Still, the biggest problem remains the same. They are 9th in Points Allowed, a huge improvement from some of the other Mavs teams in the past. Yet when the 4th quarter comes around, they have serious problems stopping people. They have the aggressiveness down, but Dallas is still weak in several positions. At Center, Dampier is off-and-on on both sides of the floor. Nowitzki is poor guarding people face-to-face, and commonly Daniels and Howard are injured.
While the Mavericks still score, its not without slight concern. Michael Finley and Steve Nash are gone, so Dirk Nowitzki needs to score big throughout the season. Hes done it so far with 26.0 PPG, but even he slows down once in awhile. Dirks shot attempts are often forced and still attempts too many 3-pointers for a Power Forward. Dallas isnt going to provide much support off the bench. DeSagna Diop, Devin Harris and Jerry Powell are getting playing time. Its far too inexperienced to trump powerhouses like San Antonio.
When Stackhouse, Howard and Terry return their bench will be deeper and Dallas scoring will go up. Avery Johnson expresses a defensive emphasis that Don Nelson never did, and its benefiting. Johnson is 30-7 since taking over and Dallas will need that kind record to take control of the division. The Spurs wont relinquish the lead in this lifetime so its 4th place or worse for the Mavs.
So if I was you, I would not go rushing to my online sportsbook to bet on the Mavericks winning a title this year.

Score - It's a Partying Soccer Goal!
Soccer is growing in popularity around the country. Many kids want a soccer themed party for their birthday. There are lots of fun ways to have everything at your event be soccer related!
Pick a list of kids to attend your party and send out soccer ball invitations. A party supply store will have all the accessories and motifs available for soccer. Have the kids wear their soccer cleats to the party if they have any or their favorite jersey.
The soccer party can be for a birthday, but it can also include a fun scrimmage soccer game. Set up two goals a short distance away and let them run around and score. If there is a parent coach nearby, have them set up cones and let the kids run through some drills. Make up a game for the two teams and have them be the sharks and the guppies and run! The exercise will do them good, not to mention wear them out so they sit better inside the house to eat.
Prizes to give away can be personalized trophies or ribbons. Attach a team picture for a great keepsake for everyone. Other treats can be candy, plastic trinkets or soccer related toys. A soccer ball piata is another great entertainment and prize piece all in one.
Soccer decorations can be found at any party supply store. Soccer balloons, black and white streamers and wall hangings make for a perfect sports party. Special soccer favor bags and treats can also be purchased to give away to each guest.
Party planning stores will also have all of the paper products needed to serve cake and lunch. Plates, napkins and tablecloths to match your soccer motif make clean up easy! Special ball shaped cake pans make round cakes which can be frosted to make soccer cakes!

One of the best inspirational sports stories ever concerns the U.S. Olympic Hockey teams triumph at the 1980 Winter Olympics. The tale has it all. There are young kids with dreams of glory, hard work, team spirit, a goal that far exceeds their grasp, and a Rocky-like finish.
The ultimate win of the Olympic Gold Medal over the Russian National Team has been written up in sports magazines and newspapers innumerable times in the past twenty-five years. This video was produced by ABC sports. In 2004 Walt Disney Studios produced the excellent feature film, Miracle starring Kurt Russell as the U.S. Olympic hockey teams coach, and Patricia Clarkson as his wife. The film does a great job of showing all the planning and effort that went into the run for the gold.
But if you really want to motivate more than yourself, you should consider the classic training video, Do You Believe In Miracles? This shorter version of the ABC Sports presentation is designed for training. It comes with a public viewing license. This means it can legally be used at workshops and seminars for training and motivation. This version cannot be purchased on Amazon, however.
One of the great motivational videos of all time. The video documents the underdog U.S. Hockey team's 1980 Olympic Gold Medal win; culminating with the stunning upset of the top seeded Russians. This 24-minute documentary is about one of the greatest upsets in sports history: the United States' defeat of the vaunted Russian Olympic hockey team in Lake Placid, New York. It's David vs. Goliath: A bunch of college kids from Canada and the United States up against the Soviet Union professionals who had won four straight Olympic gold medals.
Program Description
Its almost impossible to view the final minutes of each of these videos without tears in your eyes, a lump in your throat, and a cheer on your lips. If you saw the game live, the videos bring back the joy you experienced then, and if youve never seen the story unfold at all, you will be amazed . . . and moved.

Your Family is an Organization
It is good to remember a family is an organization. In fact, it is the basic organization of society. This is just one of the reasons I am such a proponent of family meetings. You wouldnt think of running a successful business without a plan, goal setting meetings, team building sessions and clear missions and expectations. As such, everyone in the family should have an equivalent of a job description. Each persons job description helps him define his roles and responsibilities in the family.
Just like in the workplace, the clearer the job description and the more input is solicited from the participant, the more ownership is established. If you have ever worked in a workplace where no one knew what their job was day to day and rules were arbitrary, you will recall how chaotic and frustrating it was for everyone.
The following information on structuring a family council has been compiled in part from information contained in The Parents Handbook by Dinkmeyer & McKay, as well twenty five years of personal experience.
WHAT IS A FAMILY COUNCIL?
A family council is a regularly scheduled meeting of all family members. Its purpose is to make plans and decisions, to provide encouragement, and to solve problems. It is very much like a team building or staff meeting held in the workplace. Plans and decisions made during a family meeting remain in effect until the next meeting.
FAMILY MEETINGS PROVIDE OPPORTUNITES TO:
Be heard
Convey positive feelings about one another
Give encouragement
Distribute chores fairly
Set goals for the family unit and assist in personal goals
Express concerns, feelings, and complaints
Settle conflicts and dealing with recurring problems
Plan family recreation
Have fun
GUIDELINES FOR EFFECTIVE FAMILY MEETINGS;
Establish a specific weekly meeting time.
Rotate chairperson and secretary.
Establish and stick to time limits.
Make sure all members have a chance to offer ideas.
Encourage everyone to bring up issues.
Dont permit meetings to become gripe sessions.
Distribute chores fairly.
Plan family fun.
Use your communication skills. Use I statements
Evaluate the meeting.
Maintain an atmosphere of mutual respect and honesty.
A TYPICAL AGENDA FOR FAMILY MEETINGS
Share positive feelings about good things that have happened during the week.
Read and discuss the minutes from the previous meeting.
Discuss old business. Evaluate how assignments went for the week.
Bring up new business (focusing on family fun as well as on plans and problems).
Summarize and evaluate the meeting.
Agreements as well as logical consequences for not following through with assignments should be discussed and agreed upon by the family. All members should be encouraged to participate in family meetings as equals. Family meetings are essential if families want to build strong relationships.
Good luck and God bless. You do the most important work in the world.

Sports Betting Rules
Betting is done through Sportsbooks (US) or Bookmakers (UK) entities that accept bets. You can bet on the outcome of several sporting events, such as; Baseball betting, Basketball betting, Football betting, Tennis betting, Hockey betting, Snooker and Soccer betting games.
To place a sport bet, you go to a Sportsbook, physical or online. You could also bet over the phone with many sportsbooks. Note that a sports book or sportsbook is not the same as an oddsmaker. The sportsbook simply accepts sports bets. An oddsmaker is a person who sets the sports betting odds.
You need to state what you are betting on by making a selection, the type of bet and the amount you are wagering. Your selection will obviously depend on the odds offered, so you will want to examine the range of odds available before you make a decision. There are many types of bets you can place. Some sportsbooks may offer more betting varieties and combinations than others. Below is a list of the more common types of bets.
Straight bet or Single.
This is the simplest and most common bet. You bet on a winner at given odds.
Point Spread.
This bet lets you bet on a winner from two selections who have been made equal by allocating appropriate points to the underdog team. The Point Spread is the number of points allocated and is shown with a + sign for the favorite and a - sign for the underdog. The favorite has to win by more than the Point Spread for you to win; otherwise you lose your bet even if the team wins. Inversely, if you bet for the underdog, that team has to lose by less than the Point Spread for you to win. If the favorite wins by the exact Point Spread, then it is a push or a tie. You get your bet back. To eliminate a tie result, the oddsmakers sometimes include a half point spread. Since scores use full numbers only, one team has to win outright.
Buy Points.
Also, to buy Key Points. Move the Point Spread favorably at a price.
The Money line.
This establishes the odds for each team but inversely proportional to what would have been a Point Spread, and is indicated by a + for the underdog and a - sign for the favorite. Say team A is favorite and quoted at -180 and B is the underdog at + 120. The bets offered would be 10:18 odds-on for the favorite, and 12:10 for the underdog. For every $180 you bet on A you would win $100 or lose $180, but for every $100 you bet on B you would win $120 or lose $100.
Total.
A bet for the number of points scored in the game by both teams combined, including points scored in overtime.
Over/Under.
A bet that the combined number of points scored by the two teams in the game will be Over or Under the total set by the oddsmaker.
Parlay or Accumulator.
A multiple bet. A kind of 'let-it-ride' bet. Making simultaneous selections on two or more games with the intent of pressing the winnings of the first win on the bet of the following game selected, and so on. All the selections made must win for you to win the parlay. If a game is a tie, postponed or cancelled, your parlay is automatically reduced by one selection; a double parlay becomes a straight bet, a triple parlay becomes a double. A parlay bet can yield huge dividends if won.
Teaser.
It is like a parlay, but with the option to add or subtract points (called 'moving the line') from one or more Spread bets. When betting a teaser additional points are either added to the underdog or subtracted from the favorite. The odds vary according to the number of points the spread is moved and the number of teams combined to form the teaser. As in the parlay, all selections must win for the teaser to win. Teasers odds are usually worse than the parlays.
If-wager.
A bet that allows the bettor to make a second wager, up to an equal amount, pending a win on the first selection.
Open Wager.
Open wagers allow the bettor to play teasers or parlays making a selection at different times and even different days.
Future.
A bet on a future event. At the start of each season, the sportsbooks give out odds for teams to win a certain championship. The odds change as the game date approaches and in most cases get shorter, but if you win you get paid at the original odds that you took. This is possibly one of the most profitable bets if you have considerable knowledge of the sport that you are betting on including the players, and a good sense of judgment.
Exotic Bets.
Betting on unusual events. Some sportsbooks post odds and take bets on a wide variety of other sports related events and activities. A few others will take bets on just about anything you can think of. Proposition Bet or Prop Bet.An offer of bets at odds and conditions chosen by the sportsbook, usually on 'Exotic' bets.
